My name is Mark Morehouse and I am thrilled to be the next pastor at First United Methodist Church in Winterset. I have been a part-time licensed local pastor since 2009 serving rural churches in the Missouri and Iowa conferences. I am now attending Course of Study at St. Paul School of Theology. This is somewhat of an encore opportunity as I am completing my 39-year career as a Community Banker primarily as an agricultural lender. My wife, Becky, and I are coming to Winterset from North Central Missouri. We now live in Cameron but most of our life has been spent in the Bethany area. Yes, famous for the Toot-toot restaurant.

I spent the first half of my life in Iowa, graduating from Simpson College in 1980 with a BA degree-Accounting major. I grew up as a Methodist preacher’s kid. Actually times 2. Both my mother and father are retired UM clergy and they
are moving to Indianola to be closer to my brother, Mike, who lives in Winterset.  I have another brother that lives in Austin, MN. We grew up in rural farm parishes walking beans, doing fieldwork, de-tasseling corn, shelling corn, baling hay, cleaning hog houses and working cattle. I have had a love of the farm my entire life. However, I love the church even more.

Speaking of love, I married the love of my life, Becky 16 years ago in a country United Methodist Church near Bethany, MO. Becky is a BSN-Nurse working as a nurse supervisor at the Cameron, MO, Veterans Home. I became a father on Father’s Day in 2002 to 3 great kids. The oldest, Sue-Ellen followed me into the banking business. Our second daughter, Kelly, followed her mother into nursing and is now working on her Nurse Practioners’ degree. Kelly is married to Coltyn Clark and they have a beautiful and perfect baby boy. Our son, John, is in his 4th year in the US Marine Corp and has one more year to complete. John's wife, Hannah, has been accepted to the UMKC Pharmacy School to begin this fall.

My style of preaching is mostly that of a story teller and teacher. God’s mission in the world is the story of God’s people from Creation, to the fall of man, to redemption, and then to New Creation. I can not wait to share with you more of my story and in turn, I want to hear about your stories. Together, we can participate in God’s story. And just maybe along the way, we can find a way to share God’s story, and our stories, with our neighbors.
